I Like Birds

I really like big birds. Especially Chickens and turkeys. And obviously not for eating, but because they are adorable and cute and fascinating. I wanted a chicken as a pet when I was a kid, but that would have been not only cruel for the chicken but also just plain impossible since we lived in the city and moved all the time.

I'm still dreaming about one day having birds, preferably turkeys, my absolute favorites. I would love to be able to give a home to some rescued turkeys and have them happily living a long life. The only problem I see is that I would try to cuddle them all the time, poor turkeys!

Last year I saw these fantastic pictures on Cute Overload, and I kept on going back to see them and obsessed about them to everybody around me, so I thought I'd show you these cute and beautiful turkeys eating pumpkin pie!

Especially this last picture is killing me! The turkey is having a cranberry in its beak! THIS is cute-overload for me! In my book this wins over any fluffy 'ol bunny any day.

A turkey also has a very prominent role in my favorite movie, Time Of The Gypsies by Emir Kusturica. If you haven't seen that film, I highly recommend it, I saw it just recently at the Cinematek here in Copenhagen and I have to say that it was one of the best movie-experiences I've ever had. A small taste (including the turkey):

Also I would like for all of you to consider going cruelty-free on your holiday feasts (I know a lot of turkey is consumed now in the U.S. for Thanksgiving, but even here in Europe it's a big hit for Christmas), maybe adopting a turkey would be more fulfilling!

(Oh, and my vegan pumpkin-pie turned out heavenly! Would anyone be interested in the recipe?)

Polar Opposites

I'm feeling much better this week. I'm having some time off and all the big & stressful things are getting dealt with & solved. I've been able to rest, to do some enjoyable stuff (going to a matinee alone, baking pumpkin pie, taking walks) and to clean and sort things out. Feels good.

I've even had time to wear a nice dress, some heels and make-up. Quite a transformation, since I mostly look like this:

Quite like a hobo-troll, but at least I'm always trying to wear something colorful. Wearing only muted colors and black really brings me down. I don't understand why not more people wear colorful clothes, especially now when the weather is so dark and sinister. I feel I'm one of the few colorful people when I walk the streets of Copenhagen. I urge everyone to at least try to integrate some color into their wardrobes, to lighten up these dark months.

Rant over. This is what I wore yesterday, all "dolled up" and fancy. It felt great!

Missing...

Candles, coziness, togetherness, glögi and the best pepparkakor in the world... Why can't they be available just a couple of km's south of Sweden?!

This Week's I Love Etsy

I'm living a very emotionally draining life now. It's hectic and stressful on so many levels, so I don't get the time to blog as much as I would like to. A lot is happening, my head is spinning and I'm constantly tired, but I hope things will slow down soon so I can focus on feeling better and get into a healthy routine again. And start blogging more as well, obviously.

I do have a weekly I Love Etsy-update for you, sorry for not being able to update last week, time just seems to fly by these days...

I miss having time to just sit on the couch and crochet or knit, it relaxes me so much. I'm dreaming of what to make, about yarns and colors, so this week I'm peeking into the seemingly endless offerings of fabulous hand-dyed yarn on Etsy, such fantastic work:

Matroshka & Alice

At work I'm all dressed in black, which is a bit boring. The only thing one can do to brighten things up is wearing a colorful bandana. Recently I ordered two pieces of fantastically cute Japanese fabric from an Etsy - seller to wear on my head:

One with many tiny matroshkas and some trippy animals

and a black and white one with images of Alice in Wonderland.

I love cute fabrics and can't wait to get my hands on my sewing machine again (once we find an apartment and get all of our stuff over here). I have so many projects in mind...

Anniversary

I still feel a bit tired & uninspired, but I'm trying to get things rolling again. I'm looking forward to a weekend off and some apartment hunting! (we have to be out of this temporary home by January 2nd)

Tuesday was our 4th wedding anniversary and although there were some boring thing that had to get done (like visiting the tax office), we had a lovely day, eating chocolate fondue and drinking prosecco in the the evening. Yum. The hubby surprised me with my favorite kind of tea and some fancy pants chocolate. Food makes the perfect gift!
I wrote a long saccharine filled post about how we go together last year, which you can read here if you feel you need some more sweetness in your life..

Looking back to one year ago, we've come so far (once again)!

A Machine For Loving

I love all animals, especially of course my kitty Pippin, but I do adore dogs! I wish to be a dog-mommy in the future. I'm as excited and nervous about that prospect and I'm secretly planning it in my mind in the way I suppose other people my age are thinking about getting kids. I just love dogs! Especially big and scruffy looking ones. While listening to my favorite fall record, Iggy Pop's Preliminaires this song (for those of you with spotify) made me cry (well, as mentioned previously, almost everything makes me cry today).

Two weeks after my arrival, Fox died
Just after sunset
I was stretched out on the bed
when he approached
and tried painfully to jump up
He wagged his tail nervously.

Since the beginning
he hadn't touched his bowl once
He had lost a lot of weight
I helped him to settle on my lap
For a few seconds, he looked at me
with a curious mixture of exhaustion and apology
Then, calmed, he closed his eyes
Two minutes later he gave out his last breath.

I buried him beside the residence
at the western extremity of the land
surrounded by the protective fence
next to his predecessors
During the night, a rapid transport from the Central City
dropped off an identical dog
They knew the codes and how to work the barrier
I didn't have to get up to greet them
A small white and ginger mongrel came toward me
wagging its tail
I gestured to him
He jumped on the bed and stretched out beside me.

Love is simple to define
but it seldom happens in the series of beings
Through these dogs we pay homage to love
And to its possibility.

What is a dog but a machine for loving
You introduce him to a human being,
giving him the mission to love
And however ugly, perverse, deformed or stupid
this human being might be
The dog loves him.
The dog loves him.

(she's one of my favorite beings in the world.)
